Osho´s Life
Glimpses of a Golden Childhood
this book tells more about Osho's childhood:
Osho was born on 11th December 1931 in a small village called Kuchwada in Central India. In his autobiography, he describes this village as a very unspoilt and beautiful place. "The old pond. A frog leaps into it. Plopp." Those stanzas by Basho, Osho says, are best for describing the atmosphere of his village.
From early childhood on, he proves to be rebellious and independant-minded. He loves to discuss about everything and to question all conventions. He wants to know the meaning of his life and why he is here. Often he shocks the grown-ups with his spontaneous and stubborn actions, which show no respect for society's old-fashioned norms.
The 50's and 60's
In 1951, Osho begins to study philosophy at the university of Sagar and graduates summa cum laude. As a student, he wins the Indian debating championship, but goes through a hard and totally disoriented time as well. Then, on the 21st of March 1953, at the age of 21, he experiences his true self. He describes this in his autobiography: "And on that day his search did stop. That day I was not seeking anymore for something, that day I was not expecting something to happen, it started happening. A new energy arose - out of nowhere. It was not coming from any source. It was coming from nowhere and everywhere. It was in the trees and in the rocks and the sky and the sun and in the air - it was everywhere. And I had been seeking so hard, and I had been thinking it was so very far away. And then, it was so near and so close."
In 1957, Osho holds the Chair of philosophy at the University
of Jabalpur. During this time, he often travels through
India, making public speeches, challenging religious and political
leaders to public debates and attracting many spiritual seekers.
He reads everything he can find to reach a deeper understanding
of different religions and the modern psychology of men.
Nine years later, he leaves university and focuses all his energy on his sannyasins. He instructs meditation camps regularly, gives lectures and speaks to many people on big events throughout India. At first, many Indians from all classes come to him, later more and more people from all over the world are coming, too. At the end of the 60ies, Osho develops his unique meditation techniques, especially for the people of today.
