What is meditation
"What is meditation?"
Meditation is fun, because it brings you back to your essence and your natural love of life. Further to any therapy, any healing medication or method, meditations are for one single purpose only: to help you feel your love of life intrinsically. Nothing is given to you from outside, that you could lose again, everything comes from your inner self. No form of dependency is created. Only being comfortable alone with yourself enables you to be happy with others, without wanting to hold on to them again and to be drawn into the turbulences of greed, compromise and co-dependency. Meditation is, in general, looking inside ourselves. Normally in our daily life we deal with things that happen around us and how they affect us. Our perception of this is quite limited. In consequence, many events in our life occur out of nowhere and even catastrophically, although they probably could have been foreseen.
In meditation we get to know ourselves better, our reactions, the feelings, our body and thoughts. Our longings, desires and hopes, our fears and conflicts. Our subconscious from the psychological point of view. Quite often, we find out that we have completely different sides and potential to ourselves, than we would ever had imagined.
This opens the possibility for us to lead our daily life in a more harmonious and fulfilling way. Instead of carrying out every conflict with our environment, we can take a look at it ourselves. Some people have deep emotional wounds that are revealed in the course and so active healing can be initiated in the process.
However, it is important to be truthful to ourselves and to strengthen objectivity. After some time an understanding for ourselves and our environment develops and we realize that life enjoyment depends on our inner equilibrium, and not on our environment. We can master even difficult life situations with a certain tranquillity and clarity, which does not mean that it does not move us.There are many meditation techniques to support this practice. Many of these as well as excellent literature can be purchased in the Manjusha bazaar. Modern meditation techniques help us to stay in contact with ourselves and they are fun.
Meditation is an exercise of watching objectively, in order to see, perceive and just let things happen. It is not an exercise to turn off our thoughts and be silent, this is what is called relaxation. It is not an exercise on concentration, either.
